Although Zehnder developed the steel tube radiator over eight decades ago, it is still actively working on processes to make its classic designs even more environmentally friendly. 

An excellent example of this is the updating of the Charleston welding process to LaZer made. This innovative laser welding method for the production of sectional radiators is setting new standards for quality and technology in terms of precision, quality, functionality and sustainability. Thanks to LaZer made, manufacturing can be more precise than ever before – all without residues inside the radiator or offsets on its surfaces. This makes for an even more attractive appearance and optimised radiator operation. 

In addition to these impressive improvements an 9% reduction in the cumulative energy required and CO2 emitted was achieved, equivalent to the annual consumption of almost 200 houses & the annual CO2 emissions or over 1000 cars.

Zehnder Zmart makes a strong impression with unbeatable environmental credentials: With the excellent heat output, Zehnder Zmart is extremely effective and its excellent environmental credentials make it a pioneer when it comes to sustainability.

An independent assessment shows that the environmental impact of manufacturing, transportation, use and recycling is 40% lower when compared to standard steel radiators. The CO2 footprint that is also 21% lower compared to that of standard steel radiators. Maximum ecological compatibility is ensured even during packaging. Zehnder breaks new ground not only in the selection of materials and design, but also in production, primarily supported by development partners and suppliers from the automotive sector.

Achieving a new standard of Energy efficiency and Comfort in China, with the first commercial building to achieve passive house certification

Air pollution and the efficient use of energy are issues of growing concern in China, where buildings account for 30% of total energy consumption. The Chinese government has therefore begun to promote energy efficient building which is a key strength of Zehnder, whose heating, cooling and ventilation system including all controls, allowed the first ever passive house certification for a commercial building to be achieved in China.

Zehnder supplied and installed 2 highly efficient ventilation systems (3000m3/h and 9000m3/h) with both heat and entropy converters, as well as a geothermal heat pump, underfloor heating and cooling; and ceiling panels for supplementary cooling.

Fresh and clean air is provided 24 hours a day with a comfortable room temperature of between 22 and 26°C. The annual energy requirement for heating is only 15KWh/m2.

Energy consumption is continuously monitored and the whole system can be adjusted using a smart phone app.
